Sensitivities about WWII not allowed

Tricky to figure out which sensitivities are allowed and which are not.  People who lost relatives in the war with Japan are often still sensitive about positive mentions of Japan

A Denver sportswriter has apologized for a racially insensitive tweet about the first Japanese winner of the Indy 500.

Writing that it was “nothing specifically personal,” Terry Frei of the Denver Post tweeted Sunday that he was “very uncomfortable with a Japanese driver winning the Indianapolis 500 during Memorial Day weekend.”

He posted the comment about an hour after former Formula One driver Takuma Sato took home the checkered flag Sunday afternoon.

Frei faced a backlash on social media, with Twitter users assailing him for being insensitive.

The Japanese troops committed many atrocities before and during World War II. Many of us old people still remember.

This is the same story that this blog covered previously.

The bottom line is that the writer has the right to his opinion. People have the right to criticize that opinion. The Denver Post (which employed the writer) has the right to fire him for the tweet as it was tied to his Post account.

Both the reporter's feelings and tweet are understandable (not racist) just as feelings of people who disagree with him are understandable.

The problem is that with all of the positions being understandable, we have people aren't willing to look at, see, or try to understand the "other side."

In essence, the "marketplace" of ideas is under threat from all sides.

BoP,

People should demand that you apologize for your spelling and lack of grammar while trying to portray some sort of mental and moral superiority.

BoP,

No one is making you display your ignorance and lack of spelling and grammar. You are doing that all on your own.

When you throw in your hypocrisy, lack of critical thinking and whining on seemingly every subject, you reveal yourself to be the person you are.
